Americas Crappy Health Care System
So I got stranded. Yes, I got stranded and I had to change a tire, but that’s not the story I’m about to share. I also cut myself with a rusty piece of metal while I was changing the tire.
So I remembered the last time I got a Tetanus Shot was over 15 years ago before I went to Brazil to build homes for the poor. Since then I have lived rusty metal free, until this weekend. I had some choices to make.
So I called the Doctor and they couldn’t see me for two weeks and if I wanted to see him I had to come in and loose a whole morning of work plus it would be a $15 co-pay plus $50 for the shot. Ok, Total $65 and it would cost my business a couple of hundred dollars to loose me for the morning.
If I went to the emergency room it would be $500 which was covered by my insurance plus $55 co-pay. Still it would be a two hour wait since it wasn’t urgent. And I would be taking up valuable resources from others, I mean I might not have Tetanus. I could afford to wait 24 hours for symptoms, but who wants to risk it right?
Turns out the best resource was down the street at CVS Pharmacy, there was no wait, only $42, no co-pay, and I would be done in 10 minutes. It was the most amazing experience. I went in there, young nurse stuck me in the arm, gave me a lollipop, and I got a soda on the way out for less than $43. You don’t get that experience in 10 mins at the hospital.
Everyone knows I’m not a socialist. I think Doctors and all professionals should be compensated, industry needs to make money on new creations, but our country needs reform. I had an industry associate get hit by a car last year and his airlift bill was over $10,000. Something has to change in this country. I’m hoping Obama gets it done because we can’t go on this way.
I don’t know how people ride without any coverage, but it should be free. At least the most basic stuff like shots for babies and Tetanus Shots. If anything I think the government should open more minute clinics. If Mc Donald’s can afford to feed people with 59 cent cheeseburgers on Wednesday they should be in charge of feeding the poor. Let’s just let CVS manage health care because they do it for the low price of $42 and you don’t have to miss a whole morning of work.
We spend millions of dollars maintaining nuclear weapons we hope to never use. We give money away to people in Pakistan so they can buy weapons and attack us. We bail out Kenneth Lewis and then get gets a $59 million dollar Bank of America retirement package with our tax dollars, the least we can do is make sure any scooter rider gets free medical coverage if he/she gets hit by a car. That’s all I am saying. We put people on the moon, we have the best looking president on the planet right now. If he pushes this thing and gets us to have some form of universal coverage it would be great.
Lets hope they pass this thing.
