NEW TK TURBOJET EVO MODULES SEMA SHOW PREMIER 2010

Premiering for the first time at SEMA 2010 at booth 37045 is the new TK POWER TURBO JET EVO KIT ( http://www.Turbokit.net )
To see video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7KuXjOGeKI

TK EVO EFI Turbo Controllers have an electronic fuel injection management box for some of the first EFI scooters, buggies, and gokarts to hit the US market. If you are using an EFI engine like the new Kymco 500cc or CFMOTO 600 GoKart or a Vespa GT200cc scooter then the TK system has you covered. This year the SEMA show will be showcasing several brands of EFI Karts that use engines from CF MOTO, KYMCO, and Yamaha. “The last few years the SEMA show has become the premier destination for new Go Kart models that is why we are proud to exhibit it at the center of the Buggy World to let enthusiast and dealers find out about this new accessory” commented Joel Martin president of MRP the US distributor for the TK TURBO KIT Kits.

The real technology behind the TK Box is that it functions like a carburetor. It takes the knowledge and experience that many of us have and converts it to a fuel injection interface. The interface makes it easy to tune for different modifications. This unit plugs directly in your factory wiring harness for easy installation.

Benefits include:
• Allows addition of fuel required with engine modifications without upsetting stock fuel map.
• Integrated dials provide easy adjustment and fine-tuning of fuel delivery curve without external programming devices.
• LED lights indicate fuel delivery settings while tuning.
• Won't interfere with Scooter's stock sensors and inputs.
• Up to 15% increase in horse power.
• Fully programmable with simple plug and play installation. Take control of your scooter or buggy no computer needed.
• Over 300 model applications from Ducati to Vespa and Chinese models as well such as CF MOTO now available from Turbo Kit.
• This is a must have item if you have a performance muffler or just want a little more POWER!
A fast seller for any store looking to get into the scooter or buggy market.
Come see it on display at booth 37045 Martin Racing Performance to buy or become a dealer call 305-599-8993 or visit http://www.mrp-speed.com

HOW IT WORKS:

NEW EFI TK POWER KIT EVO FOR SCOOTERS AND GOKARTS

The easiest way to upgrade your fuel injection system on your bike is now here from TK http://www.TurboKIt.net

• Allows addition of fuel required with engine modifications without upsetting stock fuel map.
• Integrated dials provide easy adjustment and fine-tuning of fuel delivery curve without external programming devices.
• LED lights indicate fuel delivery settings while tuning.
• Won't interfere with Scooter's stock sensors and inputs.
BASIC INSTRUCTIONS
To fit the TURBOJETk you will need to locate the air temperature sensor (IAT) which is located near the air box on most bikes or behind the dashboard/front headlight
on Ducati bikes (please either check your user manual for the location or contact your reseller or DM Meccanica directly if you have any problems). Disconnect
the plug connectors which are already attached to the IAT and attach the plug connectors of the TURBOJETk
module to the relevant connector of the IAT. The TURBOJETk is now ready to use!
As some motorcycles run richer and others are leaner, we suggest that you start by using the TURBOJETk with the dial set to zero and gradually increase the dial to a higher number until you find the setting which is best for your bike.
A slightly modified engine (sport exhaust, air filter etc.) will generally have a better performance with the dial set around 6 if the bike has an aftermarket exhaust system fitted. A setting between 6 and 7.5 or even 8 can be used when the catalytic converter has been removed. The original standard performance is to be found at zero. If the bike is running richer then the setting
will probably need to be set between 2-4. You will feel from the performance of the motorcycle when the engine is running smoothly and it is not necessary to run a Dyno test.
Please avoid falling into the trap of thinking the higher the number the better the performance as it will vary depending on the bike. If it appears that you are losing the torque when you hit high speeds this most probably means that you have set the TURBOJETk number too high and need to try a lower number. This is another reason why it's better to start with a low number and to gradually turn the dial to a higher number.
The TURBOJETk is waterproof.
If you have any technical problems please contact your reseller.

A history of United Motors and 2 The Xtreme

Saturday, October 30, 2010 0 comments

The Scooter Maven recently started reconnecting with his past.

I was doing the math in my head and if I counted how many years I've been in the industry I would have to go back to 1995 when I would stop by my fathers repair shop on 12th street, before I started college a new company opened up next to his store called Jincheng Motors USA. It was run by the Villegas family out of Colombia which were assembling Chinese motorcycles and wanted to expand into the USA. Eventually Jincheng would become a company known as United Motors. Around that same time I met someone named Rob Van Winkle who opened a scooter shop next to his bike shop on Lincoln Road on Miami Beach. It was called 2theXtreme and many of the vehicles they rented and sold were provided by my father. One of the brands we rented was a newly formed Jincheng Scooter by UM.

When I was doing research for the US market for a company named Malaguti out of Italy the sales manager for Jincheng / United Motors asked me to check out the Gainesville market for them. See the attached article from the Alligator from 1999.
In my market reports to Malaguti I visited several town from Atlanta to Orlando getting feedback, seeing what Aprilia USA was up to at the time and I got back to everyone who would pay or would listen to my calculations, it didn't hurt that I was working for SONY MUSIC at the time so I traveled to every single top college market from FSU and USF to get music to the college radio stations. So I could produce my market site studies and at the same time get paid ( needles to say the MIC reports were incomprehensible to anyone outside the USA.) My biggest prediction was that I Gainesville would one day be one of the top ten scooter markets in the USA and despite my calculations being off by seven years I was correct. At the height in 2007/2008 there were over 14 stores in the Ocala/Gainesville area. All it took was for gasoline to go up above $3.50 a gallon.

Shortly thereafter I was offered several jobs with Customatix.com, EA Sports, College University.com, StudentU.com, and several other websites. I also looked into the Music Industry and despite getting some awesome job offers with little or no money ( lots of perks ) I passed. A few months later every single one of the companies I just mentioned fired their entire marketing departments, after Sept 11th Sony cut its college marketing department and so did EA Sports, all my friends were gone. The dot com crash ended many of the marketing companies I knew or had worked with and when you're starting out maybe it was a good idea I went left instead of right.

United Motors as a brand is now gone in the USA having closed in Feb 2010. At their height they sold to close to 300 dealers across the country and the last few years expanded into big bikes by buying from S&T Motors / Hyosung. They still manage the brand by charging importers for the branding rights straight out of the factories in China. The family also continues to do well in Colombia while working out of Miami without a warehouse.

I just reached out to Rob aka Vanilla Ice, he's doing extremely well and I'm hoping when he gets back from his new tour he has time to hang out and do an episide of 2Xtreem TV with the Scooter Maven. It's great to see him make a comeback after all these years. He's huge in Europe and Australia. We used to race up and down South Beach on Scooters, it would be fun to do so again.

The Future Is Bright except for PSF

Wednesday, October 27, 2010 0 comments
Sucks, like it really does because today I heard from a dealer who just purchased 10 units from another dealer and guess what the company has no parts. Never fear any former Powersports Factory dealer can come to MRP! That is our mission statement to be a third party industry supplier of OEM and Racing parts and let's face it there is nobody in North America with as many scooter parts as we have - PERIOD. Our closest competitor has 3,000 skus our company is well into the 12,000 and rising and this is what we are here for, this is what we were designed for, to rise above these questionable companies that took advantage of the good times, took investors money, trashed Mario Andretti who was probably advised that this was a good licensing revenue generating gig, and now you have 1,000 people out there with bikes without support. We'll we won't abandon you, we will do everything possible to make sure you can get parts for your Andretti or Benelli scooter. www.mrp-speed.com

Powersports Factory Avoids NHTSA and Screws Consumers

So today PSF managed to screw all the Yamati and Benelli owners in North America. Just another sign of what is happening in the US scooter market.

So if you need parts, MRP has them, if you need a gas tank for your defective X50 we can sell you one. No comment from Mario Andretti and Company who probably lost a couple of hundred thousand in worthless stock.

The parka range also protects riders from the harshest weather with a total windproof system, waterproof protection, 3M thinsulate material giving you warmth without bulk, and breathable Tech3™ fleece inner skin which traps body heat but also allows the body to breathe. To top it all, the jackets even contain a handy MP3 player pocket so when you’ve parked up, you can plug in.

Great Armadillo Review in New Zealand

http://www.thescooterreview.com/component/content/article/209-armadillo/471-armadillo-city-rider-jacket

I have been eagerly anticipating testing some Armadillo Scooter Wear, I have long been intrigued by its combination of urban style and protective properties... Finally, just the other day a package arrived on the doorstep of TSR HQ containing a City Rider Jacket and the Armadillo Hoodie, as much as I wanted to run away with both of them I decide to delegate some responsibility so Ant will be trying out the Hoodie and I have the City Rider. The timing couldn't have been better as the weather was complete and utter... well let's just say it wasn't much good to keep it G rated. And when a jacket is marketed as Water Proof and Windproof it would be wrong not to abuse it until these claims are proved or disproved. When the forecast says "Weather Bomb" I normally crawl under the covers and set the alarm for a week from now, but for YOU, our faithful reader I waited till the middle of the night (colder that way) and ventured out into the pouring rain for a 40 minute round trip wearing just the City Rider with a grey cotton tee underneath. Yes I wore pants too but that isn't really relevant to the story?

I am very happy to report that the City Rider more than exceeded my expectation I remained warm, dry and very happy. I can say that I did not trial the impact absorption properties of the d3o™ armour or the abrasion resistance of Taslon outer because fortunately I didn't crash however from everything I have seen both should be spectacular

The d3o™ armour is one of the coolest materials on earth, it has incredible properties including impact absorption and flexibility, the raw material, which the jacket came with a pot of to play with is absolutely unbelievable, it flows and is malleable and soft yet retains its shape perfectly transferring the force when hit... INCREDIBLE! Armadillo describe it thus:

"Under slow rates of movement, the d3o™ CE certified (EN1621-1) pads provides maximum comfort through softness and flexibility, but when impacted at high speeds d3o™ displays excellent shock absorption as the Intelligent Molecules inside lock together, spreading the force over the whole pad.d3o™ completely conforms to your body and remains almost invisible within your garment, but provides excellent shock absorption when you need it."

Essentially an armoured jacket that doesn't look like an armoured jacket, you can even straighten your So overall the City Rider is EXCELLENT very warm, with a removable fleece liner (for summer), water and windproof providing comfort and an overall good design for functionality and unlike most protective clothing it looks GREAT, you can easily jump off the bike and wander into the local cafe or movie theatre and not look like a doofus, and you don't have the "where do I put my stupid leather jacket" problem while still having ample protection, at least for urban riding... paired with a kevlar jean or similar you are pretty much set for urban two wheeled life.

There are a couple of minor niggles that I would love to see fixed however, one is the zip, it is big and chunky and easy to grip with or without gloves, which is super... not so super is that it is incredibly finicky needing to be lined up absolutely perfectly to do up... or undo... a minor thing but pissing about with a zip every time you wear something gets annoying... In saying that this may be an issue with the test unit rather than an inherent design flaw, it sure looks like it should be sturdy and functional... The other issue is a design problem, the neck of the City Rider has a beautiful fuzzy, warm liner however it does not have any sort of adjustment or cinch at the neck and I found that this caused freezing cold air to blow down my chest... even with my Buff wind proof "Typhoon" neck warmer thing on... all it needs is a cinch like the one on the hood to snug the neck in a bit tighter. Speaking of the hood that is another minor beef, there should be a way to secure it when riding... Imagine this... ride, in rain... take off helmet, put up hood, hood full of rain... cold wet head! These are minor things but need to be though about for the next updates of this piece of kit.

Overall though I have a hard time faulting the Armadillo City Rider jacket, It really does do what it is supposed to, it keeps the wind and water off, even over reasonably extended periods, the comfort and fit are exemplary, the price is very reasonable (cheaper than an outdoor wet weather jacket!) and it supplies stylish (ever noticed how many items of motorcycle gear look like they were designed by a blind, concussed stoat in a tumble dryer?) protection for everyday use. If you are in the market for an everyday crossover jacket that provides a comfort, style and protection in a you can't really beat the City Rider, go try one on!

E-Charm CF Moto 150cc Review

Thursday, October 14, 2010 0 comments
The Scooter Maven reviews the new E-Charm 150cc LC

Real quick honest review, again its just an opinion. Overall we like it for the value, we do recommend CF MOTO and suggest you test drive one if you get a chance. This is a great little bike for the price and if you want to upgrade it MRP has the upgrades that can improve the suspension and speed. Again for the price we recommend the unit. A fantastic 150cc Liquid Cooled of much higher quality than the majority of Chinese mainland brands invading the marketplace CFMOTO is one of the few real OEMs selling product in the US and have a 2 year warranty.

Part 1 Honda Joker vs Znen Motor Retro Puma Elvis

Part 1 Honda Joker vs Znen Motor Retro Puma Elvis.

Here we review the original retro bike by Honda also known as the Honda Shadow in Europe 50cc 90cc 100cc we did a big bore kit on it last week. How does it compare to its great grandchild the Chinese clone made by ZNEN also known as the PUMA ELVIAS, FLY IL Bello, Lance, BMS,QLink and others including the TNG LOW BOW.

Also just so you know MRP has all the OEM parts for ZNEN since we took over TNG Scooters so we have all the LOW BOY Parts under the TNG parts on our site http://www.mrp-speed.com

In part 2 we will talk about the upgrades we have available.

Does your local shop not know what these names mean? Well then visit one of our dealers and have them give us a call. We are the only scooter parts distributor in the USA that is solely dealer direct and we are happy to send any potential online inquiries to stocking stores. So any consumers looking for Daelim parts will have to go to a store with an MRP account or have their store buy from another dealer that has an account with us. We also sell top name scooter brands like SN Duro Innova Kenda Bridgestone Gates Powerlink

What happens when you flood the US market?

Many of the Chinese factories that are now hurting are having a hard time because of their own actions. This is my case study to respond to many of the emails I've received including from my Motorcycle Product News article and the Scooter Scoop ( make sure to visit them the Scooter Scoop.com ) let's take a look at CF MOTO. The US management had the right idea all along about building a brand, but the Chinese management flooded the market with private label. What are the results? It just makes it more difficult for the company to compete when its competing with itself with Diamo, TNG, Qlink and others.... Markets don't have unlimited capacity they have demand that can be measured so the Chinese way of producing and supplying more than the market can take has lead to the US drop in sales and prices.

Andretti Scooters PSPFE - PSPF faces Federal Investigation!

Tuesday, October 12, 2010 0 comments
Click on this link to see the story on Mario Andretti's famous scooter brand Powersports Factory - PSF Faces Federal Investigation.

Finally someone in the media broke the story, it's funny how Dealer News ( owned by Advanstar wouldn't talk about the leaky fuel tanks ) probably because Dealer News is owed $50,000 by Powersports Factory, so thanks to the bad economy we also have irresponsible Media in this country now.

I for one know that no magazine in this day in age in the Powersports Industry really wants to talk issues unless its a press release they are printing so its sad its come to this, but I'm glad Guido did some investigating. Please click the link to see the Explosive story. We need to be responsible as an industry and I know Mario is owed a ton of money, but who cares???

What he needs to be doing is working to get these tanks fixed and the bikes off the road not worrying about the licensing money he didn't get. Same goes for Dealer News they should have been the first to investigate and they didn't. Seems like people look the other way when they are owed a ton of cash. The last thing you want is a leaky fuel tank on a thousand bikes out there with your name on them. Everyone click on Guidos Blog now and read the latest info on the story.

http://blog.guidoebert.com/2010/10/11/psf-faces-investigation.aspx"

My favorite part from the article which I guess is public knowledge is how they keep changing names and offices "PSF on Sept. 1 announced a plan to delist from the OTCBB. On Sept. 2 the company announced a move to change its ticker symbol from PSPFE to PSPF"

US Scooter Stores can now offer the best in Shock Absorption Tech Armadillo

US Scooter Stores can now offer the best in Shock Absorption Tech Armadillo the only scooter gear available in America with D30

by James Materson

It is common knowledge that anyone riding a scooter should wear a helmet for obvious safety reasons. What is less talked about is the importance of wearing protective scooter jackets to protect the scooterist in the event of a fall. Well there is great news for scooterists because many modern scooter jackets are now equipped with a new shock absorption system which allows scooter jackets to offer more protection than ever before.

The new shock absorption system is known as d3O. The d3O material is integrated into the jacket and they way it works is that it combines enhanced chemistry, engineering and design to produce a system which moves freely when moving slowly but which on shock locks together to absorb energy before instantly returning to its flexible state. In the event of a fall the shock will be absorbed by the d3O materials and impact will be minimised.

The d3O system has a major advantage in that it allows functionality without compromising the comfort and aesthetics of the jacket itself. Scooter wear experts, Armadillo, have embraced the new technology and have integrated d3O into their entire jacket range which all contain the 8mm d3O CE approved impact protection. This protection system is designed to be discrete in order to maintain the aesthetically pleasing nature as well as the comfort of the jackets.

The materials used in the d3O protection system have special ‘non-Newtonian’ properties. With normal Newtonian materials if you double the stress, you double the strain. However, with d3O materials the molecules are soft and flexible most of the time but if you hit them hard they instantly lock solid which dissipates the impact energy by spreading it over a larger surface area.

So as mentioned previously, the d3O system allows for fashion and comfort while not compromising on protection. With our example company, Armadillo, you are able to buy the Parka, City Rider, Camovision, Softshell Hoodie and Macintosh ranges with d3O fully integrated into them. So if you think it’s time to buy a new scooter jacket, you would be advised to make sure that the jacket has d3O shock absorption so that you are able to ride in comfort and safely, while looking good at the same time.
