So Obama just opened up the gas reserves to lower prices on gasoline in America. This only pushes the re-election agenda, hey let's bring the troops home and let's lower gas prices. It's simple pandering for votes in my opinion. The truth is the EV industry needs gas prices to be in synch with reality for EVs to start to sell.
Several Taiwanese OEMs have all started making electric ebikes or hybrid vehicles for the European markets including SYM, Motive Power Industry Co. Ltd. (PGO brand), Eton, Apax of Japen and many of these have expressed interest in entering the US market. Several private American assemblers have started to assemble Ebikes and EV vehicles using these Taiwanese and Chinese components in the last year that MRP now has access to. So MRP is fully committed to the EV revolution that is coming to the scooter industry. The real question is which brands are worth investing in? Who will be around in 5 years? All the money and smart investors in the world don't prevent new companies from going under. I see them at the trade shows with their big displays and egos and two years later they are gone, yet some of the small more nimble players have survived. So its anyones guess. What we have decided is that you have to follow what the big guys are doing and when I say big guys I mean Honda, Yamaha, and Piaggio. The last few weeks they have clearly indicated EV is the future. Even BMW said so recently.
Somewhere down the line there will be a hit product. As I predicted Honda is finally getting serious and if they can make the E-Scooter profitable then it will work.
There are so many brands out there right now its anyones guess which one will get consumers to really buy into it. ZERO Motorcycles, Brammo Electrics, Vectrix, Smart eScooter, Mini Scooter-E, Yamaha EC-03, E-ton E-mo, Honda EV Neo, BMW electric C1, Peugeot E-Vivacity, PGO eBuBu, Kymco Sunboy, E-Moving, Giant E-FU momentum, VRone, Rieju Mius, Garelli XO'E, Current Motors, E-Max, El Moto, Ego everyone seems to have a E-scooter concept ready to go. Eton electric is being imported to the states by PIT Motors LTD. Genuine hasn't done anything with the PGO E-Scooters since they got the new ownership investing in them, but if there is money to be made you better believe investors will look at the Ebikes as a potential marketing tool. EV is hot so it's terrible when you see a president flooding lowering gas prices to help the agenda. Plus from what I understand artificially lowering gas prices keeps the economy from staggering, but it also keeps us from pushing Electric vehicles. You can't have it both ways.
Still for every start up or new Electric like the Malaguti / Ducati / CF MOTO Electric scooter that never materialized you have one that might actually make it. Vectrix failed in its first launch the new start up might make it work with the VMoto / German design at a lower price point. This is true across the board for Americans to buy into the 50cc - 100cc range of E-scooters they have to be under $3,000 especially when gasoline 150cc scooters can be purchased for $999 retail.

Who knows I might be wrong again. I've dedicated so much time to helping advise startups and new EV companies over the last five years that its hard to tell which ones will survive. The good news is that there is plenty of choices, the big boys are finally getting into it, and once Honda / Yamaha / Piaggio push it then the true market for Ebikes will emerge.
