Analysts think the increases will reach an average of $4 nationally and go much higher than that in some states, including California. The Scooter Maven predicts $4.50 in the magical wacky cesspool called LA. Smog and high gas prices is my prediction for the Summer of 2011.
The way to avoid these high prices? Scooters, Electric Vehicles, and for America to adapt a policy that promotes high speed rail. Some people don't learn and their solution is to cut back on driving as you can see on this ABC News article http://abcnews.go.com/Business/wireStory?id=13350097
Just don't expect this type of leadership to come from the south anytime soon. In Florida there are no incentives to drive electric vehicles, scooters, and our governor just sent back all the high speed rail money. I'm hoping other states take the initiative on this one.
$5 gas will also mean a waiting list for scooters for a top name brand like Kymco or Honda. Remember anyone can sell you a cheap private label scooter, but few of you can get a Kymco this summer.
That's good news for Piaggio USA, Genuine, Honda, and everyone else that had to buy back lots of units from closed dealers. Seems like $4 gas showed up just in time to save what was left of the Scooter business.
Renewed interest in scooters means more people will go look for Scoot! Magazine for some relevant info on what to buy. So good news for our friends at Scoot trying to promote the magazine again.
