Great article today. I rented scooters recently in Vegas with my boys and it was a lot of fun, we all have motorcycle licenses and we know scooters left and right ( its the original Malaguti USA crew from 2001 getting back together at SEMA )
What's striking about this article its that its yet another state where anyone can just pickup a scooter and go. There are a lot of DUI states like North Caroline where you don't need to register a 50cc unit. In my personal opinion scooters are motorcycles so you need to be licensed and should wear a helmet if you don't have insurance ( gloves, jacket, and kevlar would help as well, ) but seriously its sad that it takes budget problems and the thought of additional revenue for people to start caring about safety.
Scooters are registered and tagged in most countries, its about time we change the laws in all 50 states for scooters as well. In Asian many countries have Motorcycle only lanes and in the future they are talking about ELECTRIC Express lanes ( would make sense if we want to keep the planet cleaner )

Because the small scooters aren't registered now, there isn't a good estimate of how many there are on Nevada roads. The DMV admits its estimate of about 2,000 is just a hunch. Department officials figures if they're right, the registration fees would generate about $15,000 in revenue to the counties and another $3,000 annually to the state general fund.
From our adventure in Las Vegas - Yup we didn't need licenses but it was good that we had them ( and we all wore helmets )
